not 100 % sure on the date but could be 1909
This meter stands 7 1/2 inches tall and is 5 inches in diameter at is three footed base. The cast base has the words "SPLIT CASE" on both sides as well as the words "IN" and "OUT" on the pipe nipples. The throat flange is 3 1/4 inches and is the seat for the read portion of the meter assembly. The meter shows water dials that measure flow in 1 ft, 10 ft, 100 ft, 1000 ft, 10,000 ft and 1000,000 ft increments. The dial is covered with a glass lens and protected by a hinged cast bronze medallion 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The cover medallion is cast with the words "Neptune Meter Co Trident water meter New York " with the serial number 457773 stamped into the surface. There is also a Trident symbol as well as a stylized shell lift tab on this cover. On reverse side the date 1909 is deeply stamped into the surface. Also faintly visible below this date there is stamped "86sep99" perhaps the dates this meter was last used ?

Nice water meter. I was given one by a friend who retired out of the water dept. and it actually still has the card used to track the account info. It was taken out of service in the 1930's or 1940's. He got it from his predecessor, who pulled it out of service and put it in a case. Unfortunately he polished it so it's not in original condition but still makes a nice display. My friend gave me another one in original condition that I can look at to see if it has a similar stamping as the "86sept99" date stamped on yours.
