I have a Sangamo Type D-5 3-wire meter, 110/220V, 600A. I believe it is from 1927 based on the serial number and that is about when the building was built that it came from. It came from an open switchboard, so the lugs are on the rear. I am looking for any info on wiring the meter. Is it intended for use on an DC or AC system? Can you tell the type of meter (AC or DC) from the serial number?

If you do not have the shunt, then the meter itself will only handle 10A. The D-5 is a mercury-motor DC meter. Yes, this thing has mercury in it so be sure the movement chamber is not disassembled and keep it upright.
